Description
Galerie Saint-Charles is delighted to announce its exhibition, ‘PROVENCE AS SEEN BY PAINTERS: Between Colour and Modernity’, which runs from 6 May to 28 September 2026.
The Gallery invites you to discover iconic artists from the South of France of the 19th and 20th centuries, from Marseille to Saint-Tropez and from the plains of Arles to the hills of the Alpilles.
The vast blue sea, the sun at its zenith, the play of light and the arid vegetation have always made the Mediterranean and Provence a source of inspiration for painters.
Around fifty works invite you on a journey through time, with stops at Mediterranean ports and scenes of daily life in Provence, where colour and light reign supreme.
Among the artists featured in this exhibition are:
- Théodore JOURDAN (1833–1908) ‘Shepherd and his flock’
- Marius MEIFFREN (1855–1942) ‘Scene on the Canal Quay in Marseille’
- Louis PASTOUR (1876–1948) ‘Washerwomen under the Sospel Bridge’
- Auguste CHABAUD (1882–1955) ‘The Flower-Adorned Washhouse at Graveson’
