Description
For 2 weeks, on the occasion of the Mediterranean Season, Studio Fotokino presents productions resulting from research carried out since last year in partnership with The Mothership (Tangiers, Morocco).
In April 2024, Bonnefrite travels to The Mothership for a week-long residency, at the invitation of Yto Barrada. For several days, he experimented with locally-produced pigments and plant decoctions, immersing himself in natural colors and roaming the city of Tangier in search of material. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he created this series of monotypes with salvaged materials found on site: aged paper, Riso print smudges found at the Tangier Cinémathèque, sticks and pencils... The result is improvised and abundant, like the garden in full bloom that surrounds it. The Studio bookshop hosts a selection of these originals, echoing the pictorial explorations presented in the main space.
Born in Toulouse in 1974, Bonnefrite - real name Benoît Bonnemaison-Fitte - is a painter and graphic designer. A tireless and methodical explorer, experimenting with painting and printing techniques, he exhibits his work in galleries and on the street, works with architects, for theaters, creates books for children, and works with other artists, be they circus performers, actors, musicians or painters.
