Description

The first museum in France to include photography in its inventory records.
As part of the exhibition “Arles Photographed from 1845 to the Present,” Daniel Rouvier, director of the Musée Réattu, presents the history and spirit of the museum’s collection in Arles. As early as 1965, the Musée Réattu distinguished itself by becoming the first museum in France to include photography in its inventory records. This pioneering initiative contributed to the emergence of two major events in Arles: > the creation of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in 1970, > followed by the opening of the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in 1982. Today, the Réattu Museum holds more than four thousand photographic works, constituting a significant collection that bears witness to the history and vitality of photographic creation.
