Description
Nicetoile invites lovers of Nice to rediscover the city through a program that showcases the identity of the capital of the French Riviera: its history, heritage, landscapes, light, and the art of living for which it is renowned.
The exhibition traces Nice’s urban, cultural, and human journey through the places that have helped shape its image: the Casino de la Jetée-Promenade, the Jardin Albert I, the Colline du Château, Avenue Jean Médecin, the Belle Époque palaces, and the landscapes that have inspired artists, writers, and travelers from around the world.
Photographs, archival materials, illustrations, artworks, historical documents, and audiovisual content trace the evolution of Nice, which has become one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic destinations. Inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as “Nice, the Winter Resort City of the Riviera,” the city reveals, throughout the exhibition, the major milestones in its development and international influence.
The Heritage Center, the Villa Masséna—Museum of Art and History, and the Nice World Heritage Center, cultural institutions of the city of Nice, have contributed to the exhibition’s documentary and scientific richness.
At the heart of the exhibition, an augmented reality experience designed by the HoloForge Interactive studio and the Villa Masséna allows visitors to rediscover the legendary casino on the Jetée-Promenade, which no longer exists. The result of extensive reconstruction work based on archives, photographs, and historical sources, this creation recreates the architecture and atmosphere of this Belle Époque masterpiece.
Through this immersive experience, visitors embark on a journey through time, where digital technologies serve as a tool for preserving cultural heritage and bring a vanished monument to life.
This initiative echoes, by a happy coincidence of timing, the series *Un Été 36*, which also invites the public to step inside the Casino de la Jetée-Promenade in the heart of the 1930s Riviera, thanks to a remarkable work of historical reconstruction.
