The Raï Roots: Tribute to Ahmed Zergui project was launched by Jamel Reffes, a musician originally from Sidi Bel Abbes (Ahmed Zergui’s hometown) who lives in Marseille.

The Raï Roots: Tribute to Ahmed Zergui project was launched by Jamel Reffes, a musician originally from Sidi Bel Abbes (Ahmed Zergui’s hometown) who lives in Marseille. He brought together various musicians from the Raï scene based in Marseille and Paris, including some members of the Orchestre National de Barbès. The project came to life during a residency and a final concert at the Cité de la Musique in Marseille, as part of the “Semaine du Raï” festival in March 2022. Mehtoze is passionate about all genres of music and groovy gems. He was part of Akademix, a Marseille-based DJ school founded by DJ Djel (Fonky Family), under whose guidance he trained in the art of the turntables.
