Description
The jousters are expected in Martigues to compete in a Provençal jousting tournament as part of the Provence Cup.
Formerly the Targo, the Provencal jousting game, offers passers-by an unusual and unique spectacle in the heart of the city.
Practiced from May to September, the Provencal jousting is a fight on the water between two people each on a boat, at the top of a plateau called in Provençale (tintine) and the aim of the game is to send his opponent to the water by means of a lance.
Each jouster is protected by a wooden plastron and holds in the left hand a witness who must prevent him from catching the spear of his opponent.
