With Reverse, the Marseille-based company Ellipse offers a fifth explosive and acrobatic creation at the crossroads of contemporary dance, hip-hop and circus.
Axel Loubette, choreographer, dancer, and paraglider, blends his ecopolitical commitment with demanding choreographic research. By confronting six dancer-acrobats with the force of the wind, he creates an extraordinary march, freely inspired by the writings of Vandana Shiva, the Indian ecofeminist, and the writer Alain Damasio. The choreography becomes an act of creative disobedience, a form of social and ecological struggle embodied by the movement of bodies in solidarity. The title, Reverse, evokes both the Latin versus, meaning "to go toward" and "against," and the idea of a poetic discourse ("verse") filling our current lack of dialogue. It questions our capacity to "reverse" the destruction of nature and to breathe new life into our collective imagination.
