Description
This round-table discussion aims to explore the diverse uses and meanings of the ‘classical’ in dance worldwide.
What constitutes ‘classical dance’ today? Perspectives from across the continents
What does ‘classical dance’ mean in different cultural and geographical contexts? From the tradition of Western ballet to dances from the Middle East or India that have become ‘classical’, this round-table discussion, organised as part of the Rencontres de l’aCD (Association of Dance Researchers) in partnership with the National Centre for Dance, aims to explore how the concept of ‘classical’ shapes the global dance scene. It will bring together artists from several continents, featured in the Festival’s programme, as well as researchers involved in the production of issue 15 of the journal Recherches en danse, ‘Danser classique’, in partnership with the Université Côte d’Azur.
Featuring researchers involved in the production of issue 15 of the journal Recherches en danse, choreographers Jaeduk Kim, Christopher Marney, Silvia Gribaudi and Paola Cantalupo, and Rosella Hightower, Artistic Director of the PNSD.
