Come and watch the ‘carreto ramado’ parade during the Saint Roch Festival in Aureille!

A bit of history... The Carreto Ramado di Cigaloun d’Aureio pays homage to Saint Roch, the patron saint invoked for protection against the plague and who went on to become the patron saint of farm workers. Revived in 2002 by Marie-Thé Josuan, the Carreto Ramado features a cart decorated with fruit, vegetables and flowers, pulled by magnificent draught horses in rich harnesses. Since 2018, her granddaughter Alisée Josuan, supported by a team of enthusiasts, has been continuing this wonderful tradition to keep it alive and pass it on to future generations. In 2026, the La Carreto Ramado di Cigaloun d’Aureio association will celebrate its 25th anniversary! Provisional programme for the Feast of Saint Roch, Friday 14 August: 8.00 am – Municipal Stadium: breakfast for cart drivers, volunteers and organisers 9.30 am – Notre Dame de l’Assomption Church: High Mass celebrated by Father Michel Thiaw, featuring Jean-François Gérold’s group ‘Le Condor’ and the Saint-Martin Choir 11.00 am – Village centre: parade of the Carreto Ramado, decorated with fruit and vegetables and pulled by magnificent draught horses. Accompanied by Jean-François Gérold, folk groups, herdsmen, whip-crackers, horse-drawn carriages, as well as numerous people and children in Provençal costume The procession will be followed by the blessing of the cart in front of the church 12 noon – Stadium: a drinks reception for cart drivers, volunteers and those in traditional dress 1 pm – Municipal Stadium: lunch under the plane trees (fideua, cheese, ice cream, coffee, wine) – booking essential by telephone Raffle of blessed vegetables and musical entertainment by Jean-François Gérold
