The most prominent duo on today's flamenco scene pay an acclaimed tribute to Pepe Marchena. She, with her limpid melismas, and he, with his acclaimed guitar arrangements, respectfully remodel the work of one of the geniuses of cante jondo.
She was commissioned to write this tribute to Pepe Marchena by her late father, who came to visit her in a dream. While this singer has performed Latin American, bossa nova and jazz alongside Javier Limón, Carlos Saura and Anoushka Shankar, this cantaora is also a popular backing singer for Miguel Poveda, Arcángel, El Pele, Manolo Sanlúcar, and occasionally Estrella Morente. Whether wearing a gavroche cap over her loose hair or a pantsuit, the female version of the maestro doesn't reproduce, she reinterprets.
In tandem with her companion on stage and in the city - trained by Rafael Riqueni and soloist since 2021, he accompanies Lole Montoya, Miguel Poveda, Israel Fernández, Antonio Canales - they recompose the famous farrucas, Huelva fandangos, tarantas and other demanding palos of the genre. With the utmost respect for their original essence, while giving them a modern touch that will appeal to aficionados and neophytes alike, this rereading of the work of Marchena (the only contemporary inventor of a new palo, the colombiana) is without artifice or nostalgia!
Created in 2022, and awarded prestigious prizes (Best Flamenco Album at the Spanish Academy of Music Awards in 2025), this recital with its highly contemporary arrangements, in which a voice of crystalline melismas blends with a fluid guitar in perfect harmony, has been touring successfully on international stages for over three years!
