Description
The Marius BAR collection is divided into several themes, one of which is devoted to the construction of Seynoise ships that have sailed the seas around the globe.
the world's seas.
The history of this construction site, whose origins date back to 1845, has given regular work to many men and women for almost 140 years. Nearly 1,444 ships were built here, each with its own number.
The first ship built was named "Languedoc" (contract date 1846), the last a Pétrolier Ravitailleur d'escadre destined for the French Navy, "La Somme" (construction number 1444). The photographs presented in this projection "Les bâtisseurs de navires de la Seyne" (The shipbuilders of La Seyne) enable everyone to appreciate the resources available to the workers of the time. Safety was precarious: no helmets, no gloves, no goggles... But the results were equal to the ambitions and unfailing courage of men of all ranks: engineers, skilled workers, apprentices. Some of the images speak for themselves!
