Description
The 2026 Villa Arson graduate exhibition, titled *Staring at the Sun*, invites us to “look directly at the sun.”
It brings together a generation of artists who have chosen a sharp yet sensitive clarity. It observes the tensions, currents, and paradoxes of the contemporary world, expressing its inquiries through aesthetic forms where material and language converge to create poetic and lived alternatives.
The exhibition unfolds as a three-part dialogue, three states of sensibility that respond to one another as visitors move through the spaces. The first section confronts the structures and imperatives that frame our lives, exploring—through the rigor of form and image—the notions of control, norm, and repetition. This formal tension gives way to a time of margins and withdrawal. Here, the works take on a more intimate character, favoring modest materials, delicate gestures, and personal narratives to inhabit the interstices and re-enchant everyday life. Finally, the exhibition opens up to the harsh light and energy of the outdoors, where the artistic gesture joins forces with the elements to experience life and become one with the world.
In this collective experience, the language of art itself becomes a tangible, raw material. The diversity of practices—from painting to installation, from performance to video, including photography and music—forms a unique polyphony. Faced with the uncertainties of our time, these thirty-five voices do not offer dogmas or ready-made answers. By uniting their energies, they instead provide a shared space for reflection, where creation becomes the site of a vibrant and mindful emancipation.
