Description

Venus, Aphrodite, Alexander, Hermes, satyrs, nymphs… a cast of sculptures captured through Anna Leroy’s lens. De natura rerum is hosting a photography exhibition during the summer of 2026 as part of the OFF Festival, through October 4, 2026.
The De natura rerum bookstore is exhibiting a selection of photographs by Anna Leroy, which offer a unique perspective on Greek and Roman statuary. Unveiled in black and white are a whole host of sculptures of Aphrodite, Hermes, Neptune, Alexander, satyrs and nymphs, ephebes and heroes, portraits, and drapery. These marbles—from Carrara, Pentelic, or Paros—play with light without artifice, yet they are carefully chosen: often fragmentary or even mutilated, or framed close-up, appearing otherwise disjointed. This is where the artist’s aesthetic choices lie, shaped by his travels—naturally between Athens and Rome, but also between the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Louvre… and in Arles, of course. The exhibition is accompanied by texts by Ludovic Laugier. A limited-edition book featuring the photographs and texts is being published to coincide with this exhibition and will be available at the opening.
