After all, there’s plenty to tell when you grow up between a communist father—a womanizer and opera fanatic who makes the Red Army Choir sing at the top of their lungs—and a nearly silent mother. Naturally, the little girl is a bit “touched by the fairies,” as they say in Marseille—a little eccentric. It makes Ariane laugh, and she unravels the thread of her life like an endearing, burlesque comedy, offering us the role of a lifetime as a gift from the fairies. Here, Ariane opens up, telling her story with sincerity, humanity, courage, and modesty, and brushes aside the hardest moments of her life with a hearty laugh.
