Description

Guided tour of the former Combarine mining site with certified tour guides from the Briançon Heritage Department
Coal has been mined in the Briançon region since the 18th century. The Combarine mines, in the town of Puy-Saint-Pierre, were the largest in the region. Originally small-scale farms with haphazardly dug tunnels, they were industrialized in the early 20th century and remained in operation until 1962. Accompanied by a tour guide, follow in the footsteps of the peasant miners as you explore the slag heaps of these mines, which shaped both the landscape and local attitudes. Duration: 2 hours Meeting point: parking lot along Departmental Road 35 toward Puy-Saint-André (500 m past the fork in the road) in front of the sign. GPS coordinates: 44.883021 / 6.607761 The hike takes place on rocky terrain with elevation changes. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for mountain hiking. The guide reserves the right to cancel or interrupt any tour if necessary to ensure visitor safety. Tours are guaranteed for groups of 2 or more people.
