Description
Reading by Muriel Mayette-Holtz, Laurent Prévot.
A woman writes to the man she lives with to break up with him, tired of the boredom she sees as a betrayal of love. He continues to tell her he loves her, while she finally takes a liking to his replies. This correspondence rekindles desire: unconsciously for her, insistently for him, as if this epistolary relationship offered an ideal space for love from a distance.
I'm deeply moved by the writing of Véronique Olmi, whom I'd like to honor this year at our Festival de Tragédies. Une Séparation, a text conceived for the stage, explores with rare delicacy the intimacy of a couple who miss each other as much as they can't stand each other, who no longer know how to invent themselves and yet remain linked by an indestructible thread. It is through the written word that they continue to reach out to each other, through words that they try to reinvent themselves, to brush up against each other once again. Between them, words still circulate, fragile and necessary, but the outcome remains unknown and is left to the imagination of each spectator. Véronique Olmi's writing is uniquely sensual and profound, capturing the essential through the minute, revealing the abyss in the detail. It's a language that palpitates, touches and burns all at once.
I'd like to place this reading of love alongside my production of Bord de mer. In the mystery of human bonds, there is an irreparable tear, an inconsolable grief, and yet a vital necessity: to love, still and in spite of everything.
