Description
The Pearlescent Banquet is an evolving, participatory, and welcoming installation that invites participants (of all ages) to create and collaboratively craft the elements that will make up a banquet inspired by seascapes, marine materials, and the imagination of the sea.
The “pearly banquet” is made primarily from seashells, dried seaweed, and items salvaged from fishing operations (nets, buoys, etc.). Throughout the workshops, participants create plates, containers, serving dishes, centerpieces, and other delicate sculptures.
Everyone contributes to this large communal table.
A monumental weaving made of ropes and recycled textiles will drape over the table as a tablecloth or a canopy—or both.
On Sunday in the late afternoon, the public will be invited to take their seats around the banquet. At the conclusion of the creative process, the installation becomes the setting for a shared moment: a banquet, a tasting, or a culinary ceremony centered on the flavors of the sea. The objects created then find their purpose, the participants become guests, and the artwork transforms into a lived experience.
*The Pearlescent Banquet* envisions the table as a place where we create together, where we eat together, and where we reinvent stories.
