Tropical Zoological Garden in La Londe les Maures

Located near the town of Hyères, a popular destination for sunny vacation on the French Riviera, the La Londe les Maures animal park attracts many visitors every year. Here you can observe numerous species of animals on six hectares of land and escape to a tropical zoo renowned for its many varieties of cacti and succulent plants. Children will also appreciate the mini farm, where they can approach donkeys, goats or peacocks.

Many species of birds

The zoo of La Londe les Maures is home to many species of tropical birds that come from all over the world. Visitors can observe, among others, the Sulawesi hornbill, native to an Indonesian archipelago, the lilac-crowned amazon, which comes to us from Central America, multicolored macaws that live in the Amazon jungle, or the black-casqued hornbill, whose ruffled feathers on its head give it a special charm. In all, several dozen species of birds await visitors.

Other animals in the zoo

Different species of rare or exotic animals also evolve at the Londe les Maures zoo. You will be able to observe the saimiris, or squirrel monkeys. These small primates, native to Central and South America, have a very expressive look and are particularly endearing. The Maki Catta is a species of lemur with a black and white striped tail and eyes, native to the south of the island of Madagascar. You can also meet several species of lemurs, such as red-bellied lemurs and black lemurs or macaws, native to Madagascar. The meerkats will probably stand up on their hind legs when you pass by their enclosure: these small African carnivores live in groups and are particularly curious. Bennett’s wallabies, close cousins of kangaroos, are certainly among your child’s favorite animals.

Tropical plants

The zoological park is also renowned for its tropical botanical garden which shelters many succulent plants, cacti and plant species adapted to regions subject to drought periods, which have found in the Var department a climate favorable to their development. The gardens are a real invitation to travel. You can wander among the trichocereus cacti, admire the callistemon flowers coming from Australia, make a detour to Mexico and discover amazing yuccas, stroll in the heart of eucalyptus trees or an Asian bamboo plantation… The gardens are also home to many mimosas, an emblematic plant of the Var department.

The mini farm

Did you come as a family? Your children will love the mini farm, which will certainly be the highlight of the visit. They will be able to get close to the different animals such goats, peacocks or donkeys, every day, at 4 p.m. Children and their parents can take part in the feeding of the miniature goats and donkeys. This convivial moment is a unique opportunity to share a privileged moment with the family.
