After discovering Martigues and its treasures on the Chemin de sainte Marie-Madeleine, you cross inland before reaching the sea. You make your way through the Vallon du Mistral before reaching the Chemin des Gides. Be prepared for a steep climb. Once you’ve passed the Chapelle Sainte-Croix, you’ll have an uninterrupted view of the seafront. Continue along the Côte Bleue to the charming port of Sausset-les-Pins. One last push and you’ll arrive in Carry-le-Rouet at the Cap Rousset beach. At La Gatasse, if you’d like to increase your time on the coast, you can take an alternative route that will take you past military remains, the Bonnieu cove, the Pointe de Carro, Cap Couronne and the Sainte-Croix beach.

Treat yourself to a well-earned dip in the sea as you cross Plage de Sainte-Croix de Martigues, topped with a chapel of the same name . The water is crystal-clear here and the beach tucked away in a welcoming little cove. There are plenty of things to do in Carry-le-Rouet. The Parc Marin de la Côte Bleue marine park offers a host of exciting snorkelling trails unveiling our thriving underwater plant and animal life – all you need are your mask, flippers and snorkel. We love the atmosphere of these unpretentious little Mediterranean ports, nestling between the rocks and bathed in pink light at sunset.
If you want to recharge your batteries after your hike on the Côte Bleue coast, set down your backpack in Carry-le-Rouet. La Résidence Adriana (La Vacancéole) offers practical, well-appointed studios just a stone’s throw from the sea. And the views are even better from Hôtel La Tuilière, complete with heated pool and cosy rooms. The equally top-notch Carry Hôtel promises a charm-filled night, plus the welcome relaxation of a jacuzzi.
