Exit Salin de Giraud and head to the Bac de Barcarin ferry. The crossing lasts 5 minutes and instils this stage with a wonderfully adventurous feeling. When you reach Port Saint Louis du Rhône and its illustrious Tour Saint-Louis tower gazing over the Rhône, head along the river before hopping on the bus (lines 1 or 2) to Fos-sur-Mer (“Douane” bus stop in Port Saint-Louis du Rhône and “Vallins” bus stop in Fos-sur-Mer). Today’s route ends at Etang de l’Estomac in Fos-sur-Mer.
If you’re a curiosity-seeker, don’t miss a visit to the Tour Saint-Louis in Port Saint Louis du Rhône . This tower harbours a fascinating ornithological collection, plus temporary exhibitions. If the sea is more your jive, you’ll definitely want to hang out at the town’s 3 beaches during your Camargue tour, and especially the star of them all: Plage Napoléon adorned with 10 km of golden sands. Pause awhile to admire the kitesurfers riding the choppy waves and observe the mouth of the Grand Rhône river. Fishermen, shellfish farmers and other seafarers also form an intrinsic part of this wild world.
In Fos-sur-Mer, close to the beaches and the town center, Hôtel Azur welcomes you to one of its rooms with all the necessary amenities. The Hôtel Méditerranée lives up to its name by offering an exterior with immediate access to the water. The same goes for Hôtel le Calypso, which offers immediate access to Fos-sur-Mer’s main beach.
As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. (Luke 7, 38)
