The Plateau des Thures is a snowshoe hike for lovers of wide-open spaces! The 600-meter elevation gain is quickly rewarded once you reach the wide, snow-covered plateau offering views of the peaks of the Magi and Mont Thabor.
Consult the ARO before planning this hike.
From the Roubion parking lot, join the slopes above the hamlet, then the Champ-Bellet ski lift, from which starts snowshoe trail no. 2, "La combe St Martin". Follow it until you reach the Clarée state forest (marked by a wooden sign). There's a sign pointing to Les Thures.
From the entrance to the state forest, the route follows the torrent up its right bank. You pass a forest hut, then a coiffed damsel (also known as a fairy chimney). The path continues to climb up to the vast Thures plateau.
Once you've reached the plateau, follow the trail to the left to reach the Les Thures pastoral hut. From here, the route continues straight ahead across the plateau until it reaches Col des Thures (2194m). The lake may not be visible at this time of year, but the imposing Rois Mages of the Vallée Etroite, and Mont Thabor on the left, are visible in front of you...
Stay alert:
- You need to be aware of changing weather and snow conditions. G.R. trails and other routes used in summer are not always the same as winter trails.
- Stay alert to avalanche risks. Mountain guides are there to accompany you on this winter terrain, which they know well.
- Depending on the avalanche risk, we strongly recommend that you wear full safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel).
