Domaine Ile des Embiez is a unique and atypical Côtes de Provence terroir. It's one of the most out-of-the-way vineyards in the appellation, and one of the few in the commune of Six-Fours-les-Plages.
Domaine des Embiez is rooted in the island's DNA: the first vines were planted as far back as 1580, a tradition that Paul Ricard was keen to perpetuate from the moment he acquired the estate in 1958. A pioneer in the field of ecology, he was determined to continue the winegrowing history of this island paradise. It's a commitment perpetuated by his descendants, who insist that every bottle of Domaine de l'Ile des Embiez is made entirely on site: planting and tending the vines, hand-picking the grapes, pressing and fermenting in the estate cellar, maturing and bottling.
The sandy-clay, schist and limestone soils benefit from maritime influences, helping to preserve good acidity and give the wines their distinctive character, which themselves are characterized by attractive saline tones.
The estate is certified organic.
This means that the vineyard is run in strict compliance with the rules of Organic Farming, in order to ensure the preservation of the environment, so dear to the island of Les Embiez.
Harvesting generally takes place at the end of summer, when the grapes are bursting with sunshine. They are harvested exclusively by hand, in small crates, early in the morning to preserve freshness. They are then transferred to the winery for pressing and fermentation, before becoming the refreshing wine we know.
The boutique is closed during the winter, but you can purchase Domaine des Embiez wines (rosé, white and red) on our website: www.lesilespaulricard.com
