Région Sud, where the Bistrots de pays started

Since the early 1990s, the Bistrot de Pays label supports and valorises village multiservice café-restaurants.

The Bistrot de pays: rejected in Paris, born in Provence

In 2018, the National Federation of Bistrots de Pays celebrated its 25th anniversary! A very special mark of recognition for this label which started out in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The story began at the end of the 1980s. At the time, Bernard Reynal, from Corrèze, who was specialized in land development and an ardent defender of rural living, presented his project to the Minister for Tourism of Michel Rocard’s government. Who never got back to him… A few years later, he presented his project once more to local representatives in the Var. And this time, Bernard Raynal convinced them. The first Bistrot de Pays opened its doors in Lardiers, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence!
