A packed programme of summer mountain activities in Colmars-Ratery

Bordered by the tumultuous waters of the Verdon, Colmars-les-Alpes is an ecotourism destination par excellence, where wild flora and fauna thrive from the first days of spring. An official “Green Resort” (Station verte), Colmars invites you to explore its natural beauty through a variety of activities ranging from hikes to whitewater sports, mountain biking and horse riding, all steeped in the dazzling sunshine of the Southern Alps

Treasures to explore in every season

Every village has its own unique soul and architecture and as you wander round the village – an official “Little town of character” resembling a citadel – you’ll see many remains of a rich history. Two 17th-century forts still stand guard over the valley and have earned Colmars the nickname of “Sentry of the Alps“. Its military architecture courtesy of Napoleon’s engineer Vauban transports you to a century past, when Colmars was a lively frontier town home to farmers, shepherds and artisans. If you want to walk in their footsteps, take the “Mémoire des rues” itinerary or “Sur les traces du soldat Carlon” interpretation trail unveiling the town’s ancient traditions, customs, and architectural and environmental heritage. Local gastronomy has crossed the ages too and you’re in the right place if you want to savour some Sisteron Lamb (Agneau de Sisteron) in a cosy local eatery or sample some lavender honey-based specialities… Simply succulent! Whether you’re a fan of history, fine arts or natural sciences, the priceless heritage of the Hautes-Alpes promises an enriching and varied cultural experience, plus museums for every taste.
