Skiing and mountain recreation in Queyras

Welcome to the family-style ski resort of Ristolas, a magnificent, nature-filled village in the Queyras area promising a host of outdoor fun. A land of snow in winter and green paradise in summer, Ristolas is a cross-country skiing hub and jewel of unspoiled nature rubbing shoulders with Italy.

Skiing, snowy fun and winter sports: winter in Ristolas

Perched at an altitude of 1,610 metres, Ristolas is set on the outskirts of Guil valley and is the largest village in the Queyrasarea. Cloaked in white throughout winter, the resort is a tranquil haven for family skiand snow shenanigans. Featuring a slightly hilly terrain, its cross-country, snowshoeing and snow hiking trails offer a gentle relief and are suitable for all levels. So don your shades and a beanie to keep your ears warm, and get ready for an adventure in the great outdoors! This little white paradise boasts high-quality snow and an exceptional quality of light – a true picture-postcard! The Nordic domain features green slopes and a fun park, ideal for gliding gently down the slopes while lapping up the mountain vistas. If you’re seeking something a little different or want to tackle an Olympic sport, how about dog sledding with all the family or trying your hand at the biathlon course? Sporty skiers will also appreciate the thrill of the Abriès slope, a stone’s throw from Ristolas. To find out more, check out the trail map and prices, then book your stay online.

Ristolas in summer, a breath of mountain air

Ristolas in summer is a paradise for walkers keen to discover the local plant and animal life, and the resort is strongly committed to preserving the environment through various botanical footpaths and eco-labels (Natura 2000, Nature Reserve, Biosphere Reserve, etc.). Simply wild! While you’re out exploring, head up the trails to the viewpoints and mountain passes bordering Italy for a sight to remember. Rare species abound here too, so keep your eyes peeled for the Lanza’s alpine salamander and fritillaria tulips… Ristolas overflows with unique treasures of biodiversity and breathtaking scenery. Just nearby, Monte Viso (Italy’s highest peak at 3,841m), Vallon de Ségure and Col de Lacroix are must-sees well known to mountain aficionados, unveiling their majesty against a backdrop of dazzling blue skies…

Ristolas, nature first

Despite its 82 km2 area, the village comprises just 2 hamlets where nature always comes first. Set on the ancient passage between France and Italy via Col Lacroix, Ristolas remains a gateway to Guil river and the lakes of Lestio and Porcierole, which can be reached via La Roche Ecroulée and Ancienne Route du Mont-Viso. The aptly-named Arche des Cimes (Arch of the Peaks), a nature interpretation centre featuring a fun layout, allows visitors to discover and learn all about the plants and animals comprising the local ecosystem.
And of course, you can’t leave beautiful Queyras without sampling the region’s delicacies such as “tourtons” – sweet or savoury fritters filled with local goodies -, or mouth-watering honey desserts… Irresistible! Whether you’re a fan of history, fine arts or natural sciences, the priceless heritage of the Hautes-Alpes promises an enriching and varied cultural experience, plus museums for every taste.
