The Écomusée du Cheminot Veynois

The railway enabled the opening up of the Hautes-Alpes in the 19th century. The Écomusée du Cheminot Veynois invites you to relive the railway history of Veynes and offers an immersive experience in the fascinating world of railroads, from 1850 to the present day.

Numerous tools and period equipment are on display. You can also discover reconstructions of a 1900 ticket office, a 19th-century waiting room, a model of the old roundhouse, and a model train featuring the level crossing at La Rochette and the Montmaur station. In the garden, you will find a level crossing gate, an aero-underground junction hut that was used for a tunnel, a brake shelter hut, a hydraulic crane, and more.

The Museum of Costumes and Trades of Yesteryear

This museum reveals the history of the Hautes-Alpes by focusing on a little-known aspect of its past. Its well-designed rooms offer visitors an immersion into a bygone era, thanks to the numerous costumes on display. Accompanied children can enjoy an engaging treasure hunt, adding a fun dimension to their visit.
Precious headpieces, representative of each period costume, are also exhibited, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage. The museum is managed and run by the dedicated volunteers of the Association Les Amis du Musée du Costume et des Métiers d’Antan, who passionately work to preserve and promote this historical heritage.

  • From Gap, take the departmental road D994 towards Valence
  • From Valence, pass through the towns of Crest and Die towards Gap

The Veynes – Dévoluy train station connects to neighboring towns and major cities in southern France: Gap, Briançon, Digne-les-Bains, Marseille, Grenoble, Romans – Bourg de Péage, Paris…
