Provence Verte
This natural region is visited for its landscapes. Numerous nature activities are proposed. Provence Verte is also appreciated for its remarkable villages such as Saint-Zacharie, Carcès or La Celle, or for its history and heritage (Basilica of Saint-Maximin, Abbey of La Celle, Château d’Entrecasteaux…).
The Sainte-Baume National Park
Between Marseille and Toulon, the Sainte-Baume massif reaches more than a thousand meters. Outdoor enthusiasts are in love with its landscapes. The fauna and flora are remarkable, with many species of birds such as the spotted woodpecker, the grey flycatcher, Bonelli’s eagle, the Jean-le-blanc circaète, the little scops owl, the European roller, the diving circle, the little owl, the mad bunting, the proyer bunting… But the Sainte-Baume is also exceptional with a historical heritage unique in the world. The Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine of Saint-Maximin and the Grotto of Sainte-Baume contain the relics of Mary Magdalene, a character present in the Gospels. Saint-Maximin is home to a monumental basilica. The town is also a tourist attraction. During your walks in the Park, you will sometimes come across partially buried cylindrical constructions. These coolers once produced the ice loaves for the bourgeoisie of Toulon, Marseille or Aix-en-Provence.
Museums in the Var department
The Museums in the Var department come to diversify the tourist offer available in the department. We can for example mention the art museum of Toulon, the maritime history museum of Saint-Tropez, the Terra Rossa museum in Salernes, the museum of Asian arts in Toulon, the Max Ernst Collection in Seillans, the doll’s house of Le Beausset, the Maison du terroir et du patrimoine of La Cadière-d’Azur…
