Description
Heritage and talent define this fascinating Kurdish composer!
Surrounded by traditional musicians, the powerfully melodious voice of this master of the tambûr recalls with emotion the stories of the oppressed Kurds and Armenians of Anatolia.
In the Alevi tradition, music is a privileged means of transmitting the stories of the marginalized and silenced Kurdish and Armenian peoples of Anatolia. After studying archaeology and cinema in Istanbul, he quickly developed a talent for music, composing soundtracks for the cinema and hosting musical performances for television. Already on the trail of minority music, this master of the art of Kurdish drumming delves into the rich heritage of his Eastern Anatolia, thanks to a precise collection worthy of an ethnomusicologist. With Keyeyî, his second opus ranked "World's Best Album" by Songlines magazine in 2024, he has now achieved international recognition. The emotion that shines through his voice, his stage presence, his mastery of traditional rhythms and languages (zazakî, kirdaskî), the dreamlike melodies of his compositions, sometimes melancholy, sometimes joyful, have all contributed to his success with audiences fascinated by this unknown music... which nonetheless seems strangely familiar. Like a common, universal homecoming, he remembers and sings the memory of exile, war, death, faith, mothers and love!
With Ali Kutlutürk (percussion) and Emrah Oğuztürk (mey, zurna, duduk, kaval).
