The church and the castle ruins

The church of Notre-Dame-d’Alydon (Notre-Dame-de-Dolidon) is situated above the village and was extensively renovated in the 16th century. It combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. From the esplanade in front of the church, you can enjoy a beautiful view over part of the Luberon.

You can also admire the ruins of the medieval castle, which date from the 13th century. The castle is currently being restored. Without entering the fortress, you can approach the castle to admire the impressive remains.

Discovering the Luberon

The foundation of the Luberon Regional Natural Park is justified in view of the variety of its territories. Between orchards, vineyards and wooded areas, valleys and hills, you will enjoy a wonderful playground. During your hikes, you will be able to admire more than 270 different species of vertebrates evolving in wet or dry areas, on land or in the middle of clouds. Birdwatchers can see rare birds of prey, or smaller birds such as the spotted woodpecker, the elegant goldfinch or the spring wagtail.

The Luberon can also be discovered on a bike. From Oppède, take the roads and paths of the Park to discover the famous territory. The villages have managed to highlight their identity. Some of them belong to the very select club of the most beautiful villages of France: Ansouis, Lourmarin, Gordes, Roussillon and Ménerbes.

Vaucluse museums

The Museums in the Vaucluse department department are home to numerous collections. Large museums or foundations, you will find many ideas for cultural outings!

The Saint-Augustin mill, located between Oppède-le-Vieux and Ménerbes, belonged for a long time to a religious order. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Moulin Saint-Augustin has become an olive growing estate. You can visit it, and buy olive oil and local products in the shop.

The Museum of Apt houses an exhibition on the history of the economic activity of the Pays d’Apt. You can discover the products that have contributed to the prosperity of this region: earthenware, candied fruit and ochre.

The secrets of Oppède-le-Vieux

We invite you to take the time to wander through the narrow streets of Oppède-le-Vieux. You will be able to admire beautiful old houses, some of which date from the Middle Ages or the Renaissance.

The village has retained its threshing floor. The ground, paved with large pebbles, was used to receive the sheaves of wheat that were then threshed to separate the grain from the straw. These remains bear witness to Provence’s agricultural past, at a time when farmers grew the cereals that were essential for the preparation of bread.

A botanical trail runs through the former terraces of Sainte-Cécile, now landscaped gardens. You can expect to spend about 40 minutes walking the trail.
