Single? So what?
Treat yourself to some “Calisson” candies (the name means little cuddle!)
Everyone’s entitled to some happiness on February 14th. So if you’re not dining out with your soulmate, ditch the diet and dive into a box of calissons! This iconic speciality of Aix-en-Provence made with candied fruit and ground almonds is perfect for the occasion. Legend tells that at the wedding of King René of Anjou and Jeanne de Laval, the usually rather frosty Jeanne exclaimed “di câlin soun” (these are like cuddles!) as she savoured a calisson. Cuddles with a taste of the South? Maybe going solo on Valentine’s Day isn’t so bad after all!
Cheers!
To wash down your candies or the recipe of your choice, there’s nothing quite like a glass of fine wine (Made in Région Sud of course!). You’ll find plenty of special Valentine’s Day wines at Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur’s cellars and vineyards, for example Château Les Valentines in La Londe les Maures, Cuvée Dame de Cœur at Clos desRoses, Cuvée Coup de Foudres at Domaine du Jas d’Esclans or Cuvée Cour d’Amour at Domaine Rostangue. It’s time to raise your glass to singles the world over. And make the most of it because all good things come to an end: next year, you might be obliged to share your bottle and box of calissons. After all, you can’t always have your cake and eat it!
