Ubu est un homme lâche, avare et violent qui décide de prendre le pouvoir sans le moindre partage. Et il l’exerce avec la délicatesse d’un char d’assaut : tyrannique, spoliateur, assassin de la noblesse, des magistrats et des financiers.
Joyeux archétype de la bassesse humaine, Ubu manie redoutablement la machine à décerveler et le « croc à merdre » ou « crochet à noble »… Mais, s’il a pensé à éliminer ses adversaires pour régner sur cette improbable Pologne imaginaire qu’il convoite, Ubu a négligé de respecter ses promesses. Sa seule issue est donc la fuite en avant : attaquer le « Czar » et la Russie ! Polémique dès sa création au théâtre en 1896 par le jeune Alfred Jarry, Ubu roi continue à faire rire et réagir aujourd’hui.
